Handy Cell Phone Cover Accessories

If you own a cell phone and are worried about the surface of your cell phone’s screen being scratched, a cell phone cover consisting of faux leather or other materials can be obtained via accessory suppliers. In addition to protecting your cell phone’s buttons and screen from becoming worn and scratched, a cover accessory can also be useful for carrying your phone around as you can obtain cases for many phones which clip onto a belt.

Cell Phone Cover Accessories for Screens

In addition to cloth, rubber and other covers which protect your whole cell phone, you can obtain a separate screen cover which is adhesive and will stick easily to your cell phone’s screen. A screen cover which is thin yet durable will allow you to still enjoy crystal clear images and text on your phone without as much risk of scratches which can make it hard to read text messages, emails, and view multimedia content.

Get an 8GB iPod Nano for $99 shipped

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

It wasn’t very long ago that scoring a 4GB third-generation iPod Nano for $99 was a big deal. Now you can get an 8GB current-gen Nano for $99. Good things come to those who wait!

That deal (which, admittedly, has been around a while) comes straight from the Apple Store–the section that sells “certified refurbished” stuff.

I’ve purchased gear from there before, and it always arrives in mint condition–complete with the same one-year warranty as the new iPods come with.

Which begs the question: why spend another $50 on a new one? The only real difference is the box: Refurbs come in a nondescript cardboard one, not the fancy plastic shell you see in stores. Meh.

The $99 Nanos are available in your choice of colors: yellow, pink, purple, blue, black, etc.

In case you don’t already know everything there is to know about this iPod, check out CNET’s First Look video up there on the right.

Want to stock your new Nano with free music? Check out my recent post on scoringfree tunes from Amazon, Rhapsody, and MP3.com. That’s in addition to yesterday’s item on 1,000 free songs from Microsoft. So many freebies, so little time!

Spare Motorola Cell Phone Batteries

It can be frustrating if you are stuck somewhere without your charger or without access to a power outlet for charging and your cell phone battery dies, thus it is smart to purchase an extra battery to keep charged, in case of emergencies. Motorola cell phone batteries as well as batteries for Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and other cell phone makes can be purchased online, as well as car chargers which use your vehicle’s cigarette lighter outlet.

Generic Motorola Cell Phone Batteries

In addition to a variety of different-sized OEM cell phone batteries, you can also purchase generic Motorola cell phone batteries which are made to fit various models of Motorola cell phones. Generics which are guaranteed and are tested thoroughly by their manufacturers can be obtained via your cell phone accessory suppliers, and are a cheaper alternative to OEM products. If you prefer to use OEM batteries only, you can find batteries to fit both new and older models of cell phone online.

Do you use iPhone Spotlight search?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Spotlight search, one of the high-profile features introduced with OS 3.0 last month, lets you search contacts, appointments, music, mail, and more without first loading their respective apps.

In other words, it’s a time-saver. In theory.

Confession time: I haven’t touched Spotlight once since installing OS 3.0 on my 3G. On a few occasions I’ve flicked past my apps and landed on the search screen, invariably prompting the same reaction: “Huh. Forgot that was there.”

I have used Mail’s new in-box search, which frequently proves invaluable. But Spotlight strikes me as a backward approach. Maybe it’s me; I’m accustomed to running apps first and looking for data second. That’s how I do things on the desktop, so it feels natural to do likewise on my iPhone. Old dog, old tricks.

What about you? Do you think Spotlight is the greatest addition since copy and paste, or does it sit, forgotten and unused, to the left of your apps? Cast your vote below!

Useful IPhone 3G Accessories

If you own an iPhone 3G, accessories for your cell phone can be ordered online, from protective covers to charger devices and speakers for your device. The touch screen of the iPhone can be operated using your fingers alone, yet this can lead to a build-up of grubby prints, and you can purchase a soft-tipped stylus affordably. You could also purchase and fit a premium screen protector which will protect your iPhone’s screen from grime and scratches.

IPhone 3G Accessories for Charging

While the iPhone 3G has extended battery life, you can quickly use this up watching video media on your iPhone, or playing games which use more of your iPhone’s processing power than simple applications. You can purchase an external battery which plugs into your iPhone’s standard docking port and provides a highly portable recharging solution – you can also obtain a car charger device which will enable you to recharge your iPhone while on the road.

AT&T to launch the Samsung Solstice A887 on August 2nd, $99.99

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Surprise, AT&T-rocking budget touchscreen fans. One of our trusty ninjas just hit us with some Sammy juice and it looks like the affordable A887, formerly known as the Infinity, will be hitting stores nationwide this coming Sunday, August 2nd. The release name of the handset will be Solstice and it packs the following “key selling points”:

  • Full touch screen display and Widget bar keep your favorites close at hand.
  • Messaging made easy with full touch QWERTY keypad with vibration response to touch.
  • Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Camera with video capabilities to capture special moments as they happen.
  • Download your favorite songs, listen to streaming radio or cut your own ringtones with AT&T Music.
  • Integrated aGPS with AT&T Navigator for turn-by-turn voice and on-screen driving directions.
  • Mobile Email and Instant Messenger for quick and easy on the go.
  • Video Share capable to share video in real time.
  • Personalize with downloadable games, graphic, ringtones and applications.
  • Stereo Bluetooth-capable for a truly hands-free conversation and music experience.

Pricing comes in at $99.99 on a 2-year contract, $174.99 on a 1-year contract and $249.99 contract free. All prices include a $50 mail-in rebate. Sure it’s not the sharpest tool in the shed but for an affordable 3G feature phone, the Samsung Solstice doesn’t look half bad. Hit the jump for some barely legible specs.

New LG Cell Phone Batteries

Cell batteries may be rechargeable, but like all batteries they have a limited life cycle, and these are often the first components of a cell phone to require replacement. If you have an LG cell phone, batteries for both older and newer models can be found easily and purchased online, and you should be able to save money on what you would pay for batteries and other cell phone accessories at a retail outlet.

Generic LG Cell Phone Batteries

If you need a budget new battery for your cell phone or are looking for a spare, you can obtain generic LG cell phone batteries which are cheaper than OEM product and have been tested thoroughly for quality. In addition to standard batteries for LG cell phones and other brands, your supplier of cell phone batteries and accessories is likely to have extended batteries available for the same cell phone models, and these are ideal if you would like to be able to use your cell phone for longer between charges..

Hands on with the Summer 2009 Xbox 360 dashboard update

Monday, July 27th, 2009

As first outlined at the E3 video game industry trade show in June, Microsoft is readying an update to the dashboard software that runs on Xbox 360 game consoles, as well as the Xbox Live online service.

While it’s not as radical a change as the fall 2008 dashboard update that added avatars and Netflix streaming, there are a lot of improvements to current features, as well as a few new ones. The dashboard update will be available for 360 owners on August 11th, but we were able to download an early version for a test drive.

Included were notable features such as the Avatar Marketplace, for buying (via Microsoft Point micro-transaction) clothing and accessories for your avatar, and the Netflix Party Mode, for watching a streaming Netflix movie along with online friends.

Missing from our early download, however, were the much-anticipated Twitter and Facebook apps, as well as the Games on Demand service for Xbox 360 games (currently only older original Xbox games are available).

Click through to the gallery below for our walkthrough of some of the new Xbox 360 dashboard features.

Jabra Bluetooth Headsets

When you are stuck in traffic and need to take a call on your cell phone, a Bluetooth headset can provide a safe means for holding a conversation while driving. Jabra Bluetooth headsets are compatible with a wide range of cell phone makes and models – as long as the phone is Bluetooth enabled, there should be no compatibility issues – and there are different models of Jabra headsets available which offer different features, such as noise cancellation or in-built LCD display screens.

Top-of-the-Range Jabra Bluetooth Headsets

The top-of-the-range Jabra Bluetooth headsets are stylish, compact, and have more features than budget accessories. A device with dual microphones and in-built noise cancellation can offer superior clarity in your cell phone conversations, and a device which is light but durable and hooks over your ear comfortably will not be uncomfortable to wear. A headset which has intuitive volume controls and shock protection included in its design can be used to answer and make calls all day long – the perfect accessory for the hard-working professional.

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

While Samsung fans on this side of the world ogle the Omnia 2, our Asian brothers and sisters across the globe are already eying bigger and better things. Ahhh, the Omnia Pro B7610.
